The Notion of duality; the inherent contrast between two things, stems from as far back as the Neolithic period, where they encountered it through the acknowledgement of death. The concept of transcendence comes from our primal dual relation between the sacred and the profane, and our battle with this.
Even though we find duality in every corner of our existence: night-day, feminine-masculine, life-dead, etc. Our need to separate things into black and white is a human respond to what perceive. Yet, if we would look closer into things we would be able to see that even though duality is in constant presence at our life, it always comes from a united whole. We live in one world and even if duality is inside of us we are whole beings.
Through this exhibition I intend to portray how human beings build internal and external barriers that affect their behaviour; due to their way of perceiving duality. If we perceive the whole instead of the division we can change intolerant patterns of behaviour.
