“The Dark Side of the Being” portrays a world fluctuating between fear and pleasure, purity and obscurity, known and unknown. Living immersed in opposites is our reality.
The so-called “dark” side is perhaps culturally and historically deemed unacceptable. But is it necessary to continue hiding the “dark” side? And by doing so, aren’t we propagating it? Prohibition and oppression seem only to encourage rebellion, or a feeling of inner guilt, which in no way makes the ‘dark’ go away.
If we abandon this idea that the ‘dark’ is unnatural, or unacceptable, and instead accept and embrace the idea that it is part of everyday human nature and lifestyle, then we will have less need to fight ourselves. The narcissism that provokes the sensation of being different, or the ‘outsider’ feeling of shame and guilt does not serve us. If we want to see reality and ourselves in an inclusive way we need to accept that these feelings and emotions are not unique to us. The “dark” obscurity in all of us is every bit as real and important as the light.
