Sculpture
Collective Exhibition- Grupo de los 16-Mexico City- October 2006
For the creation of this piece I returned to the sculpture I made in 2001 “Terrenial” where I cherished the value of our material existence, the search for the true meaning of our natural flesh.
If material does not matter, then all formal means are irrelevant. Fine Art would be reduced to only ideas. This would leave us with pure concepts, a world of abstract. It is hard to see how this type of non-material world could hold a creative art form… if ‘form’ did not matter.
“I Feel” plays with the idea of the unveiled skin, unveiled even to the bone, by using a collage of x-rays that portray another one of the intriguing inner layers of the body. I decided to create a box of light in the shape of a massive hand. The idea of warm touch is in direct contrast with the coldness of the materials it is made of.
