Collective performances in display cabinets.
PINO SUAREZ – Metro station, Mexico City- June 2003 UNDER THE SKIN…actions in display cabinets as metaphors that try to heal the wounds generated on the streets, parks, shops, schools, markets and plazas in Mexico City. EMPTY IDENTITY 2003- Performance by Laura Plancarte
EMPTY IDENTITY
Our reality is currently bombarded with millions of advertisements, selling not just products but also new ways of living. Marketing, consumerism, commercialism; the creation of new images and suggested ways of living has become one of the biggest businesses in the world.
Display cabinets contain a wealth of options for our every desire or perversion. However, now shop windows don’t just contain objects for us to acquire, but we are encouraged to become projections of the objects displayed. With this performance piece I wanted to transform the underground shop windows into a place where people could buy new and disposable identities.
